On course for further growth: Knorr-Bremse acquires two suppliers to the rail transport industry

January 30, 2014

Knorr-Bremse Systeme für Schienenfahrzeuge GmbH, Munich has acquired Transtechnik GmbH & Co. KG, based in Holzkirchen, Bavaria, and PCS Power Converter Solutions GmbH, Berlin. With the addition of these two specialists in auxiliary power converters Knorr-Bremse’s product portfolio now includes electrical systems that play a pivotal role in supplying on-board power to modern rail vehicles.

Auxiliary power converters supply the power required by operators of rail vehicles for a range of installations from air conditioning units to on-board bistro equipment. As the number of different power users on trains is increasing in line with requirements for greater comfort and safety, the market for auxiliary power converters has considerable growth potential worldwide.

Transtechnik GmbH, with a workforce of over 250 and PCS Power Converter Solutions GmbH with some 220 employees develop and manufacture various types of on-board power converters for commuter and mainline trains, as well as electrical energy supply systems, premounted assemblies and electrical equipment. Both companies enjoy a worldwide reputation and complement each other perfectly. The takeovers are subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.
