All about Knorr-Bremse trailer products

September 27, 2016 [Knorr-Bremse Group]

The truck usually comes first, pulling a trailer behind it – but Knorr-Bremse brings the trailer to the fore. At the IAA open air trailer display outside Hall 17 and at the company’s main booth inside the hall, visitors can find the full range of Knorr-Bremse’s solutions for wheelend, brake, and chassis control, as well as a host of digitalization-related applications.

At Booth A30 in Hall 17, the company’s brake and chassis control systems for trailers are displayed on a separate product island that includes the current versions of Trailer EBS and ABS, iLvl electronically-controlled pneumatic suspension and iTAP, the intelligent Trailer Access Point. Knorr-Bremse is also showcasing its ST6 19.5 inch disc brake for the first time. Weighing a mere 32 kilograms and with maximum braking torque of 19.3 kNm, the ST6 is an impressive smaller brother for the 22.5 inch ST7. A short distance from the main booth, there is a separate demonstration of the intelligent Trailer Access Point (iTAP) in the open air display area immediately outside Hall 17. This enables trailer functions to be remotely controlled, the load to be monitored via WiFi camera and fleet data to be analyzed. iTAP creates a link between the trailer and a smartphone or tablet, irrespective of the brand of towing vehicle involved. This opens up three new possibilities for operators:

Control: Tire pressures can be checked at a glance, and the pneumatic suspension adjusted. On the display trailer, visitors can use a free app to control a functional model and read off the relevant data using a smartphone.

Camera: On display is a cableless system with chassis-mounted video cameras that enable the driver to check the cargo space and the area to the rear of the vehicle. Whatever the particular tractor vehicle, and without the need for any cabling, the driver can use the app on his smartphone or tablet to check whether his dump truck has completely emptied or there is any obstacle behind the vehicle.

Push: iTAP registers vehicle operating data and uses free WiFi hotspots to transfer it automatically to the back office for subsequent evaluation, providing a basis for further enhancing the efficiency of fleet management.

In the open air display area, three different versions of the ST7 ultra-light two-piston trailer brake demonstrate the full range of wheelend options and underline Knorr-Bremse’s preeminence in the field. The entire package – shaft end, calipers, discs, actuators, brake pads – is perfectly matched and adapted to the particular requirements of trailers.
