"Deutschlandtakt": Knorr-Bremse to equip 30 new high-speed ICE trains

  • Knorr-Bremse and Siemens Mobility conclude contract to equip 30 high-speed ICE trains for Deutsche Bahn, with an option for 60 additional trains
  • From the first quarter of 2021 until the third quarter of 2024, Knorr-Bremse will supply braking systems including eddy current brakes and entrance systems with a total order value in the mid tens of millions (EUR) to the German train manufacturer
  • The trains will strengthen Deutsche Bahn's long-distance services between German conurbations as well as on several international routes, thus contributing to environmentally friendly mobility with high availability

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has concluded a supply contract with Siemens Mobility to equip 30 high-speed trains for Deutsche Bahn.

The contract comprises braking and entrance systems and represents a total order value in the mid tens of millions (EUR). Back in 2015, Knorr-Bremse equipped 17 high-speed trains based on the Velaro platform from Siemens Mobility – operated as Intercity Express (ICE) trains in Germany.

The new ICE trains will serve routes including Cologne-Frankfurt and Munich-Berlin, offering high availability throughout the Deutsche Bahn network, with a total of around 13,000 seats. They will also be approved for use in the Netherlands and Belgium.

MERAK: Knorr-Bremse launches unified global brand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for rail vehicles

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has unified its global activities in the area of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) for rail under the new umbrella brand MERAK. The transition comes at a crucial time, as MERAK is assisting rail operators around the world in providing cleaner and safer in-train air as well as restoring normality in rail travel in times of COVID-19. This makes close cooperation with customers more important than ever – and the unified MERAK now offers half a century of experience, over 1,600 highly skilled professionals and more than 120,000 units in operation worldwide.

Longer service lives: Knorr-Bremse and VR FleetCare sign service agreement to maintain braking systems of 46 locomotives

  • Knorr-Bremse and Finland’s state-owned railroad vehicle maintenance company VR FleetCare, a subsidiary of VR Group, have concluded a lifecycle management contract featuring overhaul and repair service for the braking systems of 46 freight and passenger locomotives
  • The contract in the single-digit million-euro range runs until the year 2028
  • By supporting customers with advanced service models and made-to-measure support concepts, Knorr-Bremse contributes to ensuring trains’ operability over their service lives and helps increase availability of rail transport

Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, and Finnish railroad vehicle maintenance company VR FleetCare, a subsidiary of VR Group, have signed a service agreement in the single-digit million-euro range for a fleet of 46 Sr2-type locomotives. Until the year 2028, Knorr-Bremse RailServices will be maintaining the brake control and wheel slide protection units of the vehicles’ braking systems.

CEO Bernd Eulitz leaves the company at short notice

Bernd Eulitz, Chairman of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG, resigns in mutual agreement with effect from August 31, 2020 from the company. This was decided unanimously by the Supervisory Board in its meeting today. The Supervisory Board has initiated the search for a successor. The Supervisory Board asked the remaining members of the Executive Board, Dr. Peter Laier, Frank Markus Weber and Dr. Jürgen Wilder, to take over the responsibilities of Mr. Eulitz for the transitional period.

Urban mobility: Knorr-Bremse wins major entrance systems order for Siemens Mobility’s new London Underground trains

  • Knorr-Bremse and Siemens Mobility sign agreement to supply entrance systems for 94 London Underground trains

Knorr-Bremse subsidiary IFE, the global market leader for rail vehicle entrance systems, will supply 3,760 door systems for 94 trains on the Piccadilly line operated by London Underground. With the overall demand for public transportation expected to rise over the next years, Knorr-Bremse and IFE will be making a key contribution to dependable urban mobility for the people of London.

Knorr-Bremse: Financial performance in Q2 2020 significantly exceeds expectations

Knorr-Bremse AG has considerably surpassed expectations in compensating for the anticipated downturn in business caused by the Covid-19 pandemic during the second quarter of 2020. Based on first indications, the company is anticipating revenues of approximately EUR 1.4 billion (previous year: EUR 1.8 billion) and an operating EBITDA margin of approximately 17% (previous year: 19.1%) for the reporting period April to June 2020.
